Why Waterstone?

Coming out of business school, I was interested in both consulting and corporate strategy roles within tech. I was surprised to find that Waterstone was a perfect intersection of these interests – I would be able to work on a variety of strategic engagements across clients while building my expertise in the technology space. Furthermore, I was intrigued by the opportunity to work at a boutique firm with a collaborative / entrepreneurial culture and lighter travel model.

What has been your favorite engagement so far?

I had the opportunity to work with a $1B software BU of a large global tech product and service provider who was looking to drive new product adoption and increase client retention. We worked to transform the organization’s Customer Success function to align with these needs by recommending a series of operational improvements, building out a corresponding investment case, and building out a transformational roadmap.

What has surprised you about working here?

I was surprised by how entrepreneurial the culture is. If you have an idea or an area you want to further establish our presence (or your expertise) in, there are very few layers of ‘red-tape’ to prevent you from pushing ideas forward. This can range from driving marketing content (publishing white papers, participating in webinars, etc.) to developing new offerings for the firm. This enables an element of flexibility that allows the firm to stay in front of and adapt to changing dynamics in the market.

What advice do you have for applicants?

Make sure you do your research – in addition to reading a company’s website, make sure to take advantage of opportunities to meet representatives on campus or via phone calls. This will not only help you better understand what to expect during the interview process, it will also give you additional insights into how a position with that company truly aligns with your interests. Another valuable exercise is to stay up to date on current events in the technology space. Be positive, energetic, and convey to us how you can positively impact the firm on day one. Lastly, do your case prep!
