Ross Alumnus Spotlight
Coming out of business school, I found consulting attractive because it allows you to work across many clients helping them solve their most challenging problems. Waterstone was a natural fit for me because of its focus on strategy consulting in the tech space across both software and hardware. Also, the opportunity to work extensively with top-tier tech PE firms on their portfolio companies was very appealing.
What has been your favorite engagement so far?
I worked with a multi-billion dollar manufacturer of ATMs that was looking for strategies to aggressively grow its services business. We had the opportunity to recommend exciting new offers such as advanced cash management, and help them develop a framework for operational excellence across their global business.
What has surprised you about working here?
The biggest surprise for me was the lack of travel. Like most incoming consultants, I assumed that I would be living out of a suitcase, but my travel has been limited to key events on each project such as a working session or project read-out. This has allowed me to enjoy both my weekends and weekdays in Chicago.
What advice do you have for applicants?
Always find time to stay up on current events in the business and tech world. No matter how busy you are with your studies and interview prep, carving out 15 minutes every day to read a publication like the Wall Street Journal or New York Times gives you a great perspective of what is going on in the business world and can almost always be applied during a case interview, or a real-life consulting case.
