HAAS ALUMNUS SPOTLIGHT
When I graduated from Haas I joined C3 IOT, a startup with a lot of funding and an executive team with a great track record in the valley. Working on the small Corporate Strategy team, I really enjoyed the opportunity to engage with my company’s leadership. What drew me to consulting were opportunities to expand my exposure to unique business problems while still being able to engage on executive level decisions. Waterstone was a particularly great fit for me because of its focus on strategy consulting in the tech space, meaning I would be able to leverage what I learned at C3 while continuing to deepen my expertise in the space.
What has been your favorite engagement so far?
I recently closed an engagement with a data integration software company that needed help transitioning their organizational structure as they shifted to selling their software via subscription offers. In less than eight weeks we analyzed our client’s deal data, helped them re-segment their customer base, realign their team resources, and build out an initiative roadmap. I participated in readouts with the CFO, PE leadership team, the operational division’s General Manager, and key team stakeholders. The GM used our slides in his presentation to the Board and helped him secure funding in accordance with our recommended plan.
What has surprised you about working here?
I’ve really enjoyed the small, boutique firm experience. Coming from a startup, I knew that I wanted to be at a small firm. However, with only 7 Bay Area consultants, I did not fully realize how direct an impact I would have on firm culture, strategic direction, and IP. It’s honestly been a great opportunity to learn how to operate a consulting firm.
What advice do you have for applicants?
As a small firm, Waterstone is very thoughtful about who we bring onto the team, so you should be thoughtful about your reasons for applying. Be positive, energetic, and convey to us how you can positively impact the firm on day one. Lastly, do your case prep!
